A ward is a spell which protects an item rather than a person. There are five wards known to mages and four of them can be attempted with this spell. These four are specific to types of damage, meaning that a lightning ward will not protect an item from fire. Caustic Wards protect against damage from acid or other corrosive spells. Although clerics protest, the idea of wards was developed by a mage who envied the Sanctuary given by Gods on a cleric's behalf and is said to do something similar for his highly-prized collection of treasures. NOTE: Ward raises level by 1 and may even fail causing destruction. NOTE: Containers destroyed through a miscast also destroy contents.
Prerequisite(s): Enchant Armor, Enchant Weapon.
Syntax: cast 'ward' <object> <ward-type>
Ward types are lightning, fire, ice, and caustic.
This spell is most useful both in protecting containers and in preventing charged shields from damaging themselves.
